Ingredients:
For the Pie Crust:
- 2 1/2 cups All-Purpose Flour
- 1 cup Unsalted Butter, cold and cubed
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 1 tablespoon Granulated Sugar
- 1/4 to 1/2 cup Ice Water
For the Apple Filling:
- 6-7 medium-sized Apples (a mix of tart and sweet varieties), peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1/2 cup Granulated Sugar
- 1/2 cup Brown Sugar, packed
- 1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon Ground Nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons All-Purpose Flour
- 1 tablespoon Lemon Juice
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Pie Crust:
- In a food processor, pulse the flour, salt, and sugar until well combined.
- Add the cold, cubed butter and pulse until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Gradually add ice water, one tablespoon at a time, and pulse until the dough just comes together.
- Divide the dough into two equal portions, shape into discs, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
2. Preheat Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
3. Roll Out the Crust:
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out one disc of pie dough to fit a 9-inch pie dish. Place the rolled-out dough into the pie dish and trim any excess, leaving a slight overhang.
4. Prepare the Apple Filling:
- In a large bowl, toss together the sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, flour, and lemon juice until the apples are evenly coated.
5. Fill the Pie:
- Pour the apple filling into the prepared pie crust, creating an even layer.
6. Roll Out the Top Crust:
- Roll out the second disc of pie dough and place it over the apple filling. Trim any excess and crimp the edges to seal the pie.
7. Cut Slits:
- Use a sharp knife to cut a few slits or create a decorative pattern on the top crust to allow steam to escape during baking.
8. Bake:
- Place the pie on a baking sheet to catch any drips and bake in the preheated oven for 50-60 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
9. Cool:
- Allow the apple pie to cool for at least 2 hours before serving to allow the filling to set.
